Previous Article Next Article Pensions should be protected, HR saysOn 1 Oct 2001 in Personnel Today The majority of HR practitioners believe pensions should be protected underthe Tupe regulations when staff transfer between employers. Ninety-two per cent of respondents to a Personnel Today poll said theGovernment was right to include pension provision in its reform of the Tuperegulations announced last month, even though this will be a major new costburden for businesses. Making occupational pension rights subject to Tupe was the most radical ofthe measures proposed in the DTI’s consultation paper, which has been gestatingfor three years. The Government proposes a variety of models including requiring the newemployer to provide the same type of scheme as the old, or placing restrictionson the degree of variation in benefits between old and new employer.
